How to Control Anger?

Anger triggers the body’s ‘fight or flight response. When you are angry the adrenal glands release the stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. The brain pushes blood away from the gut and prepares the muscles for physical exertion. Your body will react with physical symptoms like – increased heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration, the body temperature rises and the skin perspires.

The constant release of stress chemicals and metabolic changes is cause by ongoing unmanage anger. Can cause harm to the body and may affect different systems of the body.

Some of the health problems caused by unmanaged anger include:

  • Digestion problems, such as abdominal pain
  • Weakens the immune system
  • Higher risk of respiratory/lung problems

  • Insomnia
  • Increased anxiety
  • Depression
  • High blood pressure
  • Skin problems, such as eczema
  • Heart attack or stroke

According to research, a diet high in trans fatty acids has a direct link to increased aggression. It seems that trans fats interfere with the brain’s ability to produce and use Omega 3 fatty acids – a nutrient that lowers aggression. Low glucose levels in the body can also lead to aggressive impulses. Excessive consumption of processed junk food could lead to aggression, irritability, and even violent tendencies.

Anger can reduce appetite or can lead to emotional eating. It can lead to poor food choices too.
